Okra for Diabetes Cure?
Okra, (also called as lady's fingers or gumbo in English speaking countries) is being looked into for its potentials in treating diabetes. According to a study which was published in the October 2005 issue of Jilin Medical Journal, eating okra can reduce the risk of diabetic nephropathy. Nephropathy occurs when kidneys are damaged by high blood sugar, high blood pressure and inflammation. The researchers split a group of diabetics into two. One group received traditional diabetic treatment while the other group received the same treatment and ate okra every day. Members of the group that ate okra were found to have better kidney health than those in the other group.
