Ampalaya as Diabetes Cure

Commercials and campaigns for Ampalaya as a cure for diabetes has spurred the emergence of different amapalaya based food supplements that are marketed in the country today. Even my diabetic mother in law is taking "ampalaya tablets" as food supplement.

Is ampalaya really a cure for diabetes?

According to pinoysites.org's article "Ampalaya, A Nature’s Cure to Diabetes?", the Philippine's Department of Health (DOH) used to ban commercials that promote the use of capsules made from ampalaya as a safe and effective medicine for those who have diabetes. According to the DOH, ampalaya has not yet been proven in scientific studies as a cure for diabetes.

It is therefore safe to say that before people embark on perceived self cure by taking in herbal capsules and supplements, advice from medical practitioners should always be taken.

Symptoms of people who have diabetes include frequent excessive thirst that is not related to engaging in physical activities; fatigue, drastic change in weight, frequent urination and excessive hunger. A very evident sign that you have diabetes is when you have elevated blood sugar levels.
