I was checking my blog statistics today and I was surprised to find out that I already have three visitors who found my site by using search engines.
This is good news because rhodilee.com is only 8 days old.
How did I do it? Nah, its not me, I got the tip from grandstart.com but here is how I did it anyway:
1. I made a sitemap of my site. If you do not know how, then check out xml-sitemaps.com. I am no web guru and I actually used this site to generate the sitemap for my blog. Save the sitemap and upload it into your web root directory. You can also follow the prompts and instructions at xml-sitemaps.com.
2. I submitted the sitemap to google. I believe the traffic actually came from google because I submitted my site to the current king of search engines (forgive me yaho0 and MSN). Please take note that I did not just add my URL to Google because this might take my site months before it can be indexed. I head on to Google's Webmaster Tools instead. (You will be needing a gmail account to log in).
Type your site's url to the box provided and hit the add site button. Google will ask you to verify your site but you can verify this later. As for me, there is a problem with my site permalink structure (whatever you call that) which made it difficult for me to verify my wordpress site. I haven't actually verified my site yet.
Click on the add sitemap and choose add general web sitemap. In the box, provided, type in your site's sitemap extension (e.g sitemap.xml).
3. I added rhodilee.com to my google homepage. (I don't exactly know why I have to do this but I just followed a blogging guru's advice anyway). Click add stuff and then add by url. Type in your site url into the box and click add. Go back to your homepage and see your site's latest articles.
4. I submitted my site contents to digg and reddit. There are actually a lot of web 2.o content site out there but I have only submitted my content to digg and reddit so far but submitting my site content to these sites have already brought me more or less 40 visitors.
5. I made use of pinging services. I submitted my sites at ping o matic and pingoat for easy pinging everytime I make new posts.
And yes, google actually indexed my blog in less than a week (3 days to be exact) because I did all these stuff last August 9. Today is August 12.
